What are the commonly used fabric materials for sports towels
Sports towels are mainly made of ultra-fine fibers, pure cotton, cold sensing fabrics, nylon/polyester blends, etc. The fiber structure of different materials is different, and there are significant differences in water absorption speed, drying speed, softness, weight, and durability. They are suitable for different sports scenarios:
1. Ultra fine fiber (polyester+nylon composite)
It is currently the commonly used material for sports towels. By using the splitting process to break down fibers into micrometer sized fibers, the fibers have a large specific surface area, strong capillary effect, fast water absorption rate, and strong ability to adsorb sweat and dust; The fabric is lightweight and the moisture can quickly spread, and the drying speed is much faster than ordinary cotton towels.
Can be woven into various textures such as honeycomb, pineapple grid, and cut velvet; The disadvantage is that if the fiber opening process is not in place, it is prone to shedding hair; Long term high-temperature drying will gradually affect the softness and texture. Suitable for most indoor and outdoor sports such as fitness, ball games, and running.
Subdivision: Two component ultrafine fibers, generally with a ratio of 80% polyester and 20% nylon, are commonly used specifications in the industry.
2. Natural pure cotton
Cotton fiber itself has good water absorption, a warm and skin friendly touch, a soft wiping sensation, and no chemical fiber irritation. But the shortcomings are prominent: after absorbing water, the self weight increases significantly, the drying speed is slow, and prolonged storage in a damp state can easily produce odors and breed microorganisms.
Choose long staple cotton as the raw material, suitable for low-intensity exercise such as yoga; Not suitable for long periods of outdoor sweating, it is less commonly used for professional sports towels that focus on quick drying.
3. Cold feeling fabric (polyester fiber functional fabric)
The substrate is mainly made of polyester, combined with hydrophilic functional additives. After being wetted by water, the water evaporates and carries away heat, creating a cool sensation on the body surface. The fabric is lightweight, breathable, and has a small volume when folded.
The cooling effect depends on water evaporation, and there is no cooling effect in a dry state; After repeated washing, the surface functional additives of the fabric will gradually be lost, and the cooling effect will be weakened. Mostly used for long-distance running and outdoor high-temperature sports.
4. Nylon fabric
Nylon fabric has good elasticity, smooth hand feel, good wear resistance, and strong tensile strength. The ability to absorb sweat is average when used alone, and it is mostly used as a blended component, combined with polyester to enhance the towel’s tensile strength, resistance to pulling, and reduce repeated rubbing and pilling.
5. Bamboo fiber
Natural plant regenerated fibers are skin friendly and soft, with good moisture absorption properties and a smooth touch. After moisture absorption, the drying speed is average, the moisture strength is low, and the fabric is prone to softening and durability decreases after repeated washing. Mostly used for yoga towels, suitable for low sweating and soothing exercises.
